The Zambia National Service is part of the Zambian Defence Force. Its main
objectives revolve around land development, agriculture, industries, youth
skills training as well as arts, sports and culture. It was established in 1963
as Land Army and was used as a militant wing of an indigenous major political
party fighting for Zambia's independence at the time. It was later renamed the
Zambia Youth Service in 1965, however, due to escalating liberation wars in the
region, the Government felt the need for a more militant organization to augment
the Zambia Army.
Its flag is green with diagonal stripes of red, black
and orange. The emblem of the Zambia National Service is placed in the center of
the flag, and its abbreviation is placed under the emblem.
